Summer in Japan is too hot every day.
The pool is nice, but the beach in the hot summer is so special.
But don’t you think, “I want to go to the beach, but I don’t have a car…”?
This time, I would like to introduce the beach where you can go by train without a car.
Onjuku Station
Onjuku Station is around 2 hours from Tokyo Station by local train, or less than 1 hour and 30 minutes on the Wakashio Limited Express train.
*I will explain about limited express trains later.

There are no automatic ticket gates at the station.
The following people should ask the station staff;
・Boarding the train with a paper ticket
・Needing an IC card charge
You can’t buy boarding tickets at Onjuku Station, so a transportation IC card is required.
If you only have cash, you will get a “Boarding station certificate” from a machine at this station.
After that, you will pay for the ticket.
Check the Train’s Timetable
As you can see from the train timetable, there are several trains per hour at most.
Additionally, the red part of the timetable is a limited express train.
Therefore, it feels like 1train per hour if you want to use only local trains.

When traveling by train, check the timetable before going to the beach!
Onjuku Chuo Beach
It looks far from the station to the sea on the map, but you can walk in less than 10 mins.

It has blue skies, blue seas, and a white sandy beach.
I’d never known there was such a beautiful sea in the Kanto region.

It has moderate waves and is perfect for surfing because here faces the Pacific Ocean.

It was not so crowded regardless of the summer vacation.
Even if you put up a tent, you’ll have plenty of space without worrying about neighbors.
BBQ and camping are prohibited here, so I recommend it for people who don’t like crowds and want to relax by the sea.
Katsuura Station
Katsuura Station is next to Onjuku Station.
Unlike Onjuku Station, there are Automatic Ticket Gates, Ticket Vending Machines, and the Ticket Reservation Office.
Katsuura Central Beach
This beach is less than 10 minutes on foot from Katsuura Station.
There is Athletics on the seaside operated for summer only!
It requires pre-reservation.
There is also a Discount for guests of eligible accommodation facilities in Katsuura City.
For more information, go here.
